Bountiful Blessings

I’ve always dreamed of owning a farm. Acreage, chickens, goats, a bountiful vegetable garden, a beautiful flower garden. But alas, I only have 1/4 acre, and it’s mostly shade.

I’ve had echinacea and mint growing for years but I’ve been too busy to try to harvest them. I never knew what to do either. But this year I decided to do it. I cut a few echinacea and a bunch of mint. And now I have them hanging up in my house to dry. I’m really excited for the end result! Can we say mint tea? Yes please! 😄.

We have a small chicken farm here. 20 chickens. They’re fun. The kids love them. I love the fresh eggs we get every day! If you’ve never had farm fresh eggs, you’re really missing out. They’re so much better than store bought eggs!

And the berries!! I’m so excited about these berries! We’ve always had black raspberries but this is the first year for red raspberries. A bird much have dropped a seed because they just randomly sprouted up in the back yard! There was an invasive vibe growing back there, along with other weeds. I’ve worked hard to remove all the weeds to really give this berry bush a chance to thrive, and it has! There’s easily 100+ berries growing and I couldn’t be more delighted! It’s a small reminder to me that God will provide and give you all the desires of your heart. 💜

Do you have a farm or garden? I’d love to hear about it!

Summer is for s’mores

Summertime is officially here! And summertime calls for s’mores.

I’ve got a lot of hungry mouths to feed this summer and it’s not always idea to make a fire outside. Let’s be honest, it’s hot! 90 degrees and 90% humidity is NOT s’mores weather!

I decided to treat the kids to indoor s’mores this week. They were delicious! Ooey and gooey just like on a campfire!

It’s also berry season around here! A mysterious raspberry bush has been growing in the back yard and no one knows how it got there! I think a bird must have dropped a seed. Who knows! All I know is now we have several red raspberry plants growing! I couldn’t be happier! My children all love raspberries. They could eat them everyday but they’re so expensive. We have black raspberries, those have been around for years. But the red ones are new! I’m delighted to be able to just go in the back and pick some for them! They’re absolutely delicious too!

Happy summer everyone!

Baby number 4

We are 4 weeks away from baby number 4! I can hardly believe it! These 36 weeks have flown by. And it still feels like there’s so much to do. Baby boy has most everything he needs. I’m still on the hunt for a changing table but I believe it will come when it comes.

Miss Liz got a new table for her bedroom! She loves to have tea parties and play with all her friends. It’s so cute too! It’s from the new Pillowfort Line from Target. It’s great quality, sturdy, and super adorable.

Kids

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Boy, it’s been a tough year already. Managing three children and a house can be a challenge. It’s tough to learn to balance everything. But we’re getting there! I’ve decided to start implementing a more strict schedule. We need to be more prompt and accountable. I’ve heard schedules are the key to mamas sanctity, so I’ll try it!

My babies are getting bigger. I’m doing my best to raise them to be respectable young humans. I hope I don’t let them down.

Did you make any New Years resolutions? I’d be interested to hear them!

Best of luck in the new year! Blessings.

A trip to Vermont

Isn’t it nice to get away? Just pack a bag and go. That’s what my husband and I (and baby Ben) did this past weekend. We didn’t have much planned, aside from the hotel, which I got with a gift card from Travelzoo.com (thanks travelzoo!) But we had such a wonderful time. It was nice to be carefree, to not have to make plans over plans. And to be honest, my husband and I needed that time together.

Things get busy with three kids. The marriage gets put aside for the kids, for work, for cooking & cleaning. By the end of the day, I’m just too tired to even watch a movie with my husband. He understands though, and I’m thankful for that. But it still sucks to not have much time with him. I miss him. He’s a wonderful man and a great companion. And not to mention, pretty good looking! I’m blessed to have him as my husband.

So this last weekend was our time! Time to just unwind and enjoy each other. We had dinner at a great little restaurant. It was only about two hours from home, but the drive was amazing. The fall foliage was remarkable. It was a much needed adventure!

From our family to yours; Happy Fall! 🍁

3am Rants

Good morning.

I’ve been awake since 2am. I’m not a night person. I’m a mom. A mom to three wonderful little angles, who apparently missed the memo that night time is for sleep. My oldest kicked things off this morning. He needed to use the rest room, which he just had to wake me up to tell me. Then the baby woke up to nurse. Fine. I’m up anyway. Then the middle darling woke up screaming, as she’s been doing that every night for a week now. ‘Okay, Elizabeth, I’m sorry but mama can’t help you. Baby is nursing.’

And here we are, at 3:39 am. Baby is still up, playing in his crib. Elizabeth is still yelling, alone in her room. ‘Mama still hasn’t had a free moment to help you Liz.’ I feel bad, ya know. She wants to see me. I should be happy my kids always call out for me when they wake up in the morning. They love me, they want to see me. But I’m tired. My husband is sound asleep. I’m jealous. I want to sleep too. But I don’t. I never do. I wake up every night to help the kids go back to sleep, but who helps me?

Being a mother is a thankless job. It’s tedious, I work long hours with no break. I’m a maid, a cook, a pastry chef, a teacher, a sleep coach, a nanny. It’s exhausting and there just isn’t enough coffee in the world to make this mama not tired. Don’t get me wrong though, my kids do say thank you. I know they appreciate me, but still.

Mama needs a break.
